Arrests and increased patrols following Golders Green Arson attack |
||
|
Dear all,
The arson attack in Golders Green early on Monday was a shocking hate crime, designed to instil fear and sow division amongst Londoners. As the Metropolitan Police, our commitment to the safety and security of all communities across London is our primary purpose, and one which we take incredibly seriously.
This morning, officers from Counter Terrorism Police arrested two men in connection with the incident. Both were arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and have been taken to a London police station where they currently remain in police custody.
Our Jewish communities have been increasingly targeted by groups and individuals’ intent on spreading fear, harm and hate. As the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, Sir Mark Rowley said on Monday: There is no “us and them”. There is only an attack on a British community.
To help reassure and protect Londoners, you will likely see more officers in and around your communities. Specifically, you will see:
These officers are there for you. If you have any worries or concerns, please do not hesitate to approach them.
This is not just a police response; we are being closely supported by Barnet Council as well as Jewish community groups and charities such as CST and Shomrim.
Anyone with information that could assist the investigation can call police on 101 providing the reference 415 of 23 March.
Alternatively, if you wish to remain anonymous, call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
